DUNEDIN, Fla. – At age 42, relief pitcher Darren Oliver is gearing up for his 20th major-league season.
The veteran left-hander is entering his second year with the Toronto Blue Jays after previous stints with Texas (three times), St. Louis, Boston, Colorado, the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels.
Oliver says good health and good teams have helped keep him in the game so long.
And he’s happy to be back with Toronto, although he admits spring training gets old the 20th time around.
Toronto, which exercised a US$3-million option to bring Oliver back, will be looking to the veteran to continue setting up Casey Janssen and Sergio Santos.
