Activist author Naomi Klein coming to Kamloops for public talk

KAMLOOPS – Controversial and award winning Canadian writer Naomi Klein will be returning to Kamloops in February for a public talk.

The activist author is coming as part of Common Voices, the speaker series held by the Thompson Rivers University Student Union. She will be speaking on the evening of Feb. 7 at the university’s Grand Hall, according to a student union media release.

Klein rose to prominence through her books like No Logo and The Shock Doctrine and columns for the Guardian. Her work is often critical of capitalism and supports climate activism.

She was in Kamloops earlier this year as part of an indigenous climate change conference. Her lecture is just a day before David Suzuki’s talk at the university, hosted by anti-Ajax Mine group Code Blue.

Past speakers in the series have included Jane Goodall, Margaret Atwood and Peter Mansbridge.

Tickets are free according to the student union website, and will be available starting Jan. 9. The lecture on Feb. 7 will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
