KELOWNA – A small fire on Discovery Avenue at UBCO is leaving some students with a mess to clean up when they get back from winter break.
A sprinkler system put out the small fire in the second floor unit, but water caused damage to another six units below, Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Kelly Stephens says in a release.
Around midnight, a resident of the unit called 911 shortly before smoke alarms and the sprinkler system went off. The cause is suspected to be a bed and bedding that caught fire from a baseboard heater. Only about 25 students were in the complex at the time.
