KELOWNA, B.C. – The BC Coroners Service says a woman from Invermere was the victim in an incident involving a CP Rail train.

Fifty-year-old Carmen Salazar was walking with a friend across the tracks at a crossing near Invermere when she was hit Tuesday night.

The service says Salazar was standing with her back very close to the tracks when she was struck by a coal train.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and the RCMP are still investigating the death.
