Canadian 100-metre sprinter Dushane Farrier banned four years for doping

TORONTO – Canadian sprinter Dushane Farrier has been banned for four years for a doping violation.

The 26-year-old from Toronto tested positive for SARM S-22 during an in-competition doping control at the Canadian track and field championships July 3 in Edmonton.

SARMS — selective androgen receptor modulators — are a class of hormones that produce similar effects to androgenic drugs like anabolic steroids, and are relatively new on the doping spectrum.

Farrier and Athletics Canada were informed by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport of the positive doping test on July 15, during the Pan American Games in Toronto. Farrier didn’t compete in the Games.

Farrier ran a personal best 10.27 seconds in the 100 metres, and was a member of Athletics Canada’s 4×100-metre relay pool. He ran NCAA track for the University of Alabama.

Farrier admitted the anti-doping rule violation and a hearing was held to determine the sanction length. He’s ineligble to compete until July 2, 2019.
