Judge appoints new lawyers for convicted Ohio serial killer

CINCINNATI – A judge has appointed a new defence team to represent a convicted Ohio serial killer at his new sentencing hearing.

The attorneys who had been representing Anthony Kirkland say they quit because he discussed his case with another attorney and they could no longer ethically represent him.

A judge in Cincinnati on Monday appointed two new lawyers who will argue Kirkland should serve life in prison instead of being put to death.

Kirkland was convicted of murder in 2010 in the deaths of two Cincinnati teenagers. He pleaded guilty to killing two other women.

All four were killed between 2006 and 2009.

He appealed the convictions. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled he should get a new sentencing hearing.
