North Okanagan family hoping for return of dog’s ashes after house robbed

VERNON – An Okanagan family would like to get the ashes of their dog back from whoever who broke into their Coldstream home last week.

RCMP say between 8:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 30, a Coldstream home in the Fosthall Drive area was broken into.

The suspect or suspects stole electronics and jewelry, from iPads to watches and rings, according to a RCMP media release. However the family is more distraught over two specific items that were stolen.

"The first is a custom ceramic coin bank belonging to one of the young children. It has a picture of a small boy and a woman on it," Const. Jocelyn Noseworth says in the release. "The second is a veterinarian cardboard box containing the remains of the family's recently deceased dog."

Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP are appealing to anyone with information about this crime, or the location of the stolen items to call 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
