KAMLOOPS – Kamloops crews have spent the past day and a half trying to locate a water main break in a West End neighbourhood.
Greg Wightman, the city's utility services manager, says crews responded to a report of a water main break near Boundary Road and Battle Street West yesterday morning, Jan. 5, but in the time since then they have discovered a second break.
"A couple of hours ago, (we) determined there were two separate main breaks," Wightman says. The second break is near Hemlock Street.
Due to the hills in the area, it made locating the source of the leaking water difficult, he says.
Battle Street West is currently closed between Centre Avenue and Boundary Road. Wightman says crews are close to determining the location of both breaks, but residents shouldn't expect their water to be turned on until tonight.
Wightman says roughly 20 homes on Hemlock and Battle have no water.
Fortis BC is also on the scene to ensure crew safety, due to high pressure gas lines in the area.
