Canada’s Katie Vincent wins gold medal at opening Canoe Sprint World Cup

DUISBURG, Germany – Canada’s Katie Vincent won gold in record time Saturday at the season-opening ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup.

Her time of 46.205 seconds was almost a quarter-second faster than the previous mark of 46.419 set by Canada’s Laurence Vincent-Lapointe in 2014.

“I had a really good start and got off the line well,” said Vincent. “I’ve had a lot of great preparation in the off-season and I’m glad to see it all starting to pay off after lots of ups and downs this spring.”

Vincent, from Mississauga, Ont., will race the women’s C2 500 metres tomorrow with Nadya Crossman-Serb of Winnipeg.

Kayaker Mark de Jonge of Halifax qualified for the A-final in the men’s K1 200 metres. He won his heat and was second in his semifinal.
