Sunny, cold week ahead after weekend snow dump in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A day after Kamloops got a big dump of snow we may see some flurries or light periods of snow, but it shouldn’t be significant as we head to sunny days.

Today, Jan. 9, may have periods of light snow, according to Environment Canada, with the wind gusting up to 40 kilometres per hour through the day and into the night. We should reach a high of -5 Celsius. The cloud will break up a bit in the evening with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a low of -10 C overnight.

Tomorrow the cloud will be blown away as the wind will still be gusting up to 40 km/h with sunshine predicted for the whole day. The high for the day will be -8 C, but that’s going to drop significantly, falling to -12 C by the late afternoon. Tuesday night the low is expected to be -17 C with a clear sky

The sunny weather will continue through Wednesday, with a high of -9 C during the day and low of -17 C, and Thursday, with a high of -13 C and low of -16 C.

A bit of cloud is expected on Friday, along with a high of -8 C during the day and -12 C in the evening.

The weekend should be a bit warmer than the work week, with highs of -3 C on Saturday and 0 C on Sunday.

Most of these temperatures are much cooler than typical for Kamloops this time of year. Season normal temperatures are highs around -1 C and lows of about -8 C.

For anyone heading to the coast right now, beware of a snowfall warning currently in effect for the Coquihalla highway from Hope to Merritt. Another 10 to 15 cm could fall by this afternoon.
