Alouettes sign former Stampeder defensive lineman Evans to one-year contract

MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes signed former Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman DeQuin Evans to a one-year contract on Monday and inked two more defensive linemen, Markell Carter and Ike Igbinosun, to two-year deals.

The 28-year-old Evans played the last two seasons with Calgary, winning a Grey Cup in 2014. He had 19 defensive tackles and three sacks in nine CFL games.

“It’s great to add a former (Kentucky) Wildcat to the mix,” said coach and general manager Jim Popp. “I’m sure he will get pushed hard by his fellow alumnus, (defensive line) coach Anwar Stewart.

“DeQuin will bring some experience and has shown he can be successful in the CFL.”

Carter returns to the Alouettes after starting the 2015 season on the team’s injured list and practice roster.

Igbinosun had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and most recently, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
