Midfielder Sophie Schmidt and defender Steven Vitoria have been named Canada Soccer’s players of the month for August.

Schmidt helped the Houston Dash move into second place in the NWSL standings while Vitoria helped GD Chaves move into a tie for fifth in Portugal’s Primeira Liga after the first month of the season.

Schmidt, currently in Australia with Canada, had a goal and an assist in five NWSL matches as Houston posted two wins, two draws and a loss.

Vitoria has played every minute of the 2022-23 season with his new side in Portugal. As captain of GD Chaves, he scored the opening goal on a header in a 2-0 win at Sporting CP last Saturday.
