CHAMONIX, France – French skier Guillermo Fayed narrowly posted the fastest time in a World Cup downhill training run Wednesday.
Fayed, who has two podiums in downhill so far this season, clocked a time of 1 minute, 59.11 seconds on the La Verte des Houches course in the French ski resort of Chamonix that’s by Mont Blanc — the highest mountain in the Alps.
He finished .02 seconds ahead of Austrian veteran Hannes Reichelt and .03 ahead of Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud, the Olympic silver medallist in downhill two years ago who’s fourth in the overall World Cup standings this season.
Erik Guay of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was fifth and North Vancouver native Manuel Osborne-Paradis was sixth.
There’s another training run on Thursday ahead of Friday’s Alpine combined race and the downhill on Saturday.
