B.C. Lions sign defensive lineman Khreem Smith to contract extension

VANCOUVER – The B.C Lions have signed defensive lineman Khreem Smith to a contract extension.

Smith was fifth in the CFL last season with seven sacks while adding 20 tackles over 17 games. His three forced fumbles in 2012 led the Lions and tied for third in the league overall.

Smith was set to enter the option year of his previous deal.

“Khreem has quietly developed into a key veteran presence on the field,” Lions GM and vice president of football operations Wally Buono said in a statement. “He has great instincts as a pass rusher and gives our defence an added dimension.”

Smith joined the Lions in July 2011, and has recorded 12 sacks and five forced fumbles in 32 regular season games with the club.
