Canadian pitcher Jesse Crain withdraws from WBC with shoulder injury

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Canadian pitcher Jesse Crain has withdrawn from the World Baseball Classic due to a shoulder injury.

The Chicago White Sox right-hander suffered the injury at spring training.

A replacement for Crain will be announced in the coming days.

Crain, 31, had represented Canada in both the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classics.

Canada opens the tournament Friday against Italy.
