NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin scores in return from concussion as Pittsburgh rallies by Tampa Bay 4-3

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin scored less than 2 minutes apart in the third period and the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied past the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Monday night.

Chris Kunitz added his 12th of the season for Pittsburgh and James Neal scored an empty-net goal in the final minute as the Penguins sent the struggling Lightning to their fifth straight loss.

Malkin, making his return after missing four games due to a concussion, tied it 5:38 into the third period on a pretty breakaway. Crosby put Pittsburgh in front moments later with a slap shot from the slot that zipped past Anders Lindback and into the net.

Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos scored twice to push his league-leading total to 17, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Lightning’s slide.
