Homeowner, cops catch man breaking and entering

A man who broke into someone's shed was caught twice last night: first on camera, and second by police.

Vernon RCMP were alerted to a break-and-enter in progress in the 2300 block of 32nd Street Thursday evening around 6:58 p.m.

"Our officers responded quickly to the area. When they arrived they were advised the home owner had been alerted to someone in his driveway by his video surveillance camera," RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk said.

The home owner charged outside and discovered a man in his shed.

"The suspect took off on foot, with the home owner in hot pursuit," Molendyk said.

The suspect ran through a creek to the Green Valley Motel. "Our officers conducted inquiries at the motel at several rooms the suspect was seen going into."

The suspect, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and detained overnight.  He is expected to appear in court Friday.
