NY City Opera announces 2016 season after bankruptcy

NEW YORK, N.Y. – In its first season since emerging from bankruptcy, New York City Opera plans to present the world premiere of David Hertzberg’s “Sunday Morning” in a concert version, plus performances of Stewart Wallace’s Hopper’s Wife and Daniel Catán’s “Florencia en el Amazonas.”

Founded in 1943, City Opera filed for bankruptcy protection in late 2013, two years after leaving Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The group presented performances of Puccini’s “Tosca” last month at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

“Sunday Morning” will be performed on March 16 at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

“Hopper’s Wife” will be presented in four performances from April 28 to May 1 at Harlem Stage in its East Coast premiere, and “Florencia en el Amazonas” will receive four performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center from June 22-26.
