Three people sent to hospital after serious crash in Glenmore

KELOWNA – Three people are in hospital after a head on collision in Glenmore last night.

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, Jan. 18, a motorist happened to pass by a crash in the 100 block of Valley Road North. When emergency crews arrived they found a grey Ford Escape and a black BMW X3 with extensive front end damage.

The driver of the Ford Escape was an 18-year-old Kelowna woman who had to be extracted from her vehicle before being taken to hospital. A media release from Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says her injuries are non life-threatening.

A 51-year-old West Kelowna woman was behind the wheel of the BMW, and she and her passenger were also taken to hospital with what are believed to be relatively minor non life-threatening injuries.

“An examination of the scene, coupled with both driver accounts, suggest that the grey Ford Escape began to slide and crossed the centre line, while travelling in a single curve eastbound along Valley Road North,” O’Donaghey says in the release. “Investigators believe that a combination of oil, slush and fresh snow on the roadway contributed to a very slippery surface.

“Officers also noted that the tread of the tires on the Ford Escape were not sufficient for winter driving conditions. RCMP would like to remind motorists to regularly inspect the condition of their vehicles equipment to ensure it’s compliant with the Motor Vehicle Act and its Regulations.”
