Multi-province warrant leads to arrest of high-risk Kelowna criminal

KELOWNA – A man police described as a dangerous criminal who was wanted by Kelowna RCMP is back behind bars.

Jacob Alexander Tolchinsky, 25, was wanted on a province-wide warrant for breach of a recognizance and one count of mischief under $5,000 he allegedly committed in Kelowna Dec. 11, 2016.

It appears from court records he was able to avoid police for roughly three weeks before being arrested in Prince George in early January. He has been held in custody ever since appearing in Prince George court Jan. 6.

Tolchinsky’s B.C. criminal history includes theft of vehicle and mischief that occurred in Lillooet Nov. 25, 2014 and was found guilty of theft over $5,000 in Vancouver in April. He has also been arrested in Surrey and in December RCMP sent out a media release warning the public Tolchinsky was wanted and “may have returned to the Calgary area.”

“He is considered dangerous by RCMP and he should not be approached,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said.

He is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing in Kelowna court Jan. 26.
