West Kelowna Warriors sale headed to BCHL leadership for approval

WEST KELOWNA – Mark Cheyne says after a decade of ownership, a deal is all but done to move the West Kelowna Warriors to the Lower Mainland.

Cheyne says he has accepted an offer which will see the team move to North Delta and will play in Sungod Arena. A letter of intent has been forwarded to the B.C. Hockey League board of governors for approval.

Cheyne refuses to speculate on which way the board will go, but expects they will decide sometime in the next two weeks.

“I’ve had it for sale for four years,” he says. “We just don’t get enough support. I’ve been cultivating different options for a few years now.”

Cheyne, who has been sole owner since 2009/2010 season, says the hardest part about saying goodbye will be the 700 loyal fans.

“They’re really passionate,” he says. “After we won the National Championship (last year) we thought we’d have significantly more support but it just never materialized.”
