Rainbow Family arriving in Vermont forest for annual fest

MONTPELIER, Vt. – Thousands of people are continuing to arrive in the Vermont town of Mount Tabor for the Rainbow Gathering of Living Light festival being held this year in the Green Mountain National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service has brought in an incident management team to help manage the event. They say there’s been a series of conflicts between festival-goers and locals and minor violations like panhandling and drug offences.

Incident management team member Nadine Pollock is working her third festival and says the event is a cross-section of society.

The Rainbow Family describes itself as a loose knit group of people without leadership or organization. It has met annually since 1972 as a temporary community practicing peace, love and respect. More than 10,000 people are expected at the event.
