Police dog and off-duty officer help take down man causing a disturbance at two Kelowna hotels

KELOWNA – Police have a man in custody after a serious commotion at two Kelowna hotels over the weekend.

A 33-year-old Kelowna man, with no fixed address, is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a hotel guard, pulling two fire alarms and stealing a fire extinguisher, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

Hotel staff called police when the man started acting irrationally.

O’Donaghey says police were called to the Sandman Hotel in the 2100 block of Harvey Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.

When police arrived to the Sandman, police were told the man was smashing glass at a neighbouring hotel. After the ruckus at the Sandman, he went to the Ramada where he allegedly pulled the fire alarm and started spraying the stolen extinguisher.

“A search of the suspect incidental to his arrest yielded suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia,” O’Donaghey says in the release.

Kelowna RCMP took the suspect into custody with help from a police dog and an off-duty officer from Northern B.C., who happened to be staying at the hotel.
