Lakehead upsets Cape Breton 74-61 in opening game of CIS men`s basketball event
OTTAWA – Lakehead defeated Cape Breton 74-61 in the opening game of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men`s basketball tournament Friday at Scotiabank Place.
The seventh-seeded Thunderwolves pulled away in the fourth quarter for the upset win over the second-seeded University Capers.
Fifth-year guard Ben Johnson scored a game-high 25 points for Lakehead.
The top-ranked Carleton Ravens will play No. 8 Victoria later in the day.
Other teams in the Final 8 tournament are the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees, No. 4 UBC Thunderbirds, No. 5 Acadia Axemen and No. 6 McGill Redmen.
Carleton has won the championship in eight of the past 10 years.
