Penticton RCMP investigate vehicle thefts

PENTICTON – Vehicle thefts continued in the Peach City last week.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says officers responded to Forestbrook Drive after a report of a suspicious male checking out vehicles in the neighbourhood on Jan. 18. They encountered a man matching the description given, but found no stolen items on his person. The man was found to be breaching his curfew, however and was arrested.

Wednesday morning, Jan. 18 at 8:22 a.m., a white GMC1500 pickup was stolen from the rear alley of MooseJaw Street, Wrigglesworth says. It was observed driving away with no tail lights. The truck also had a leaking fuel tank and was only half full of gas. The vehicle had been stolen without keys.

At 10 a.m. the vehicle was found in the ditch on Pineview Way. The ignition had been punched and there was minor damage to the box. Police have no suspects so far.

Wrigglesworth says later in the morning, at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, police received report of a vehicle stolen on Windsor Avenue, a grey, 2003 Chevy Malibu, believed to have been stolen sometime between 5:30 and 10:20 a.m.

Police were also called following a vehicle theft at Neighbourhood Autobody on Rosetown Avenue, Monday, Jan. 23.

A 2003 Accura, B.C. license plate 034 XHW, was stolen from in front of the building after the owner dropped it off and deposited the keys into the door of the body shop.
