JCI Vernon's Good Citizen of the year

VERNON – Marie Morris has been honoured with JCI Vernon's Good Citizen of the year award.

Morris was joined by family and friends at the People Place yesterday afternoon, Jan. 26, where she was presented with the award.

She was nominated by her daughter Susan Morris, who said her mother has always given back to the community without a second thought.

Through out the years Marie has worn many hats in this community. At 78 years old she is still going strong, giving a helping hand to so many.

She has been involved in many community organizations over the year including:

President of CNIB & Driving blind to activities
Chair of the Winter Carnival (other roles as well)
President of Kinette Club
Minor Hockey
Kokanee Swim Club
Lifeguard Camp Hurlburt
Canvasing for charities (back when it was door to door)
Driving school sports teams & chaperoning

Presently Marie is on the board of directors for Special Olympics. She holds the position of Athlete Registration/Medical records for all sports. She drives and chaperones athletes to out of town tournaments. She is very involved in Trinity United church, volunteering one day a week in the office looking after communion, counting and depositing the offering, offers rides to a young family and elderly members on Sundays. She does Camper registration and drives campers to Camp McKenzie. Marie helps out at blood donor clinics, drives elderly people to appointments, reads and takes people on outings when in care facilities.

Marie somehow still finds time to hike all the trails in the North Okanagan, cross country ski, snowshoe and swim laps. She also supports Powerhouse Theatre, Community Concert and Okanagna symphony by being a member of all.

Maire has five children, 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
