GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – Alberta’s Chelsea Carey advanced to Sunday’s final at the Canadian women’s curling championship with a 7-5 win over defending champion Jennifer Jones on Friday.
The host province scored two points in the first, fifth and eighth ends and stole a point in the sixth en route to victory in the Page playoff between the top two seeds from the preliminary round.
Jones drops to Saturday evening’s semifinal to face the winner of the afternoon playoff between Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson and Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville.
The semifinal winner faces Carey for the title.
Carey and her front end of Jocelyn Peterman and Laine Peters will play in their first championship game at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Nixon was Shannon Kleibrink’s third in 2008 when they lost the Hearts final 6-4 to Jones.
