Report: Tourists to Colorado spent nearly $21B last year

DENVER – Colorado hosted 86 million visitors last year, marking the eighth consecutive year of record-setting growth.

The Denver Post reports that numbers compiled by the state’s tourism office indicate the visitors spent nearly $21 billion during their travels in Colorado, generating nearly $1.3 billion in tax revenues.

According to the tourism report, the state had 84.7 million travellers from other states and nearly 1 million international visitors.

Tourism in Colorado has been increasing consistently since the recession in 2009 with the number of domestic visitors growing by 41 per cent.

Denver officials reported last week that the city had a record 31.7 million visitors in 2017, marking the 12th consecutive year of growth. The city accounts for about half of the state’s tourism spending.
