Road realignment in front of city hall to be postponed

KAMLOOPS – The city is looking at postponing the realignment of the Lorne Street, 1st Avenue and Lansdowne Street intersection after the cost submitted by the lone bidder came in too high.

The fourth phase of the Lorne Street upgrades project was presented to the public in February and was scheduled to start later this year. The lone tender submission came in about $400,000 over the initial $1.8 million budget and city administration says funds are not available in the capital plan budget to complete the project at this cost. Staff is recommending council postpone the project to 2014.

The entire Lorne Street beautification project began in 2012 and saw electrical, road, sidewalk and utility upgrades, as well as landscaping, completed through the first three phases.
