Police divers search Fraser River after truck crash near Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK, B.C. – A 36-year-old woman has died after her truck smashed through a concrete barrier, sheared off a power pole and landed in the Fraser River in Chilliwack, B.C.

Mounties in the Fraser Valley community were called to the scene, at McDonald Road and Ballam Road, just before midnight Sunday.

The body of the unidentified victim was pulled from the river after a short search.

Const. Tracy Wolbeck says the truck was recovered early Monday morning.

She says divers are searching the river to ensure no one else was in the truck when it went into the water.

A cause of the crash is under investigation and Wolbeck says the victim’s name won’t be released until the case concludes.
