Capital Projects public consultation meeting attracts 170 residents

VERNON – The City of Vernon hosted a capital projects public consultation meeting at the Vernon Recreation Centre on Wednesday evening, which was attended by more than 170 Vernon residents. The meeting provided the opportunity for residents and businesses to review the capital projects scheduled for construction in 2017, as well as discuss any concerns with the project team regarding the design, road closures, timing of construction or other issues.

Ten project booths featured multiple works that will be taking place throughout Vernon in 2017, such as roadworks, utilities, multi-use paths and park projects. Major projects include the Kalamalka Lake Road cycle corridor, 30 Street road and utility rehabilitation and 35 Avenue reconstruction.

“We are very pleased with the turnout last night,” said Mark Dowhaniuk, Manager of Infrastructure Management. “Vernon residents had an opportunity to see a variety of projects and get a sense of the scope of work happening in 2017. We had a lot of positive feedback from people who attended the meeting.

Additional meetings will be held as projects progress and the designs and project schedules are refined and finalized.
