‘Dead Poets Society,’ ‘Pacific Overtures’ on tap at CSC

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The world premiere stage adaptation of “Dead Poets Society,” a David Ives play and a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Pacific Overtures” are the highlights of the Classic Stage Company’s upcoming season.

The off-Broadway company said Monday its new season under incoming artistic director John Doyle will feature Academy Award winner Tom Schulman adapting his “Dead Poets Society” for the stage, starting in October. Doyle will direct.

The story is about a strait-laced, conformist school boys’ prep school whose harmony is disturbed when a teacher — played by Robin Williams in the film — arrives to teach English.

In January, the company will present “The Liar,” a farce by Ives based on the play by Pierre Corneille and directed by Michael Kahn. And in April, Doyle will direct “Pacific Overtures.”
