Oilers’ forward Connor McDavid earns top rookie honour for February

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Centre Connor McDavid was named the NHL’s top rookie for the month of February on Tuesday.

McDavid led all rookies with 12 assists and 17 points over 14 games. McDavid, taken first overall by Edmonton in last year’s draft, recorded at least one point in 10 of those contests.

The native of Richmond Hill, Ont., leads all rookies with an average of 1.07 points per game this season (10 goals, 19 assists in 27 games). He was also the top rookie for October.

Also considered for the honour were Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere (four goals, nine assists in 15 games), Chicago Blackhawks left-winger Artemi Panarin (five goals, six assists in nine games) and Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo (7-3-2 record, 2.46 goals-against average, .922 save percentage).
