Funtastic community grant applications open today

VERNON – Sporting groups in the Vernon area in need of financial help can now apply for the Funtastic Community Investment Grant.

According to a release from the Funtastic Sports Society, the grant supports non-profit sport, recreation and community organizations. Funding can be used for equipment and capital costs for sports related activities.

Last year, the Funtastic grant program doled out $30,000 to 14 winter and summer sport applicants, the release states.

Online applications for the grant will be accepted until Friday, March 3, 2017.

"2016 was a benchmark year. Funtastic received over 33 submissions from non-profit sport groups for community grants. This clearly shows the need these groups have," Funtastic director Tony Pallas says in the release.

The 2017 Funtastic tournament is scheduled for June 30 to July 3. Each night the bats, softballs and jerseys are put away when the musical acts take the stage.
