Thieves exchange one stolen pickup for another in Summerland

SUMMERLAND – Police are investigating the theft of a pick up truck and a couple of break and enters that took place last week in the community.

Cpl. Christopher Richardson says in a release that Summerland RCMP investigated a call to a Julia Street address on Jan. 24 after a white 3/4 ton Dodge pickup, with B.C. plates KH6960 was reported stolen.

Investigations show that suspects used a second pickup to push the Dodge to the road. The second pickup was left at the scene. Police learned it had been reported stolen in Penticton.

Richardson says RCMP also attended a single vehicle accident at Arkell Road and Highway 97 on Jan. 28. The driver was travelling on Highway 97 when the vehicle struck a concrete barrier and flipped on its side.

Firefighters were called to the scene to extricate a driver from a Toyota Corolla. The driver, who was the lone occupant, was taken to hospital and appears to have sustained only minor injuries.

Police also investigated a broken window reported overnight on Jan. 24 at the Peacock Perch Liquor Store.

Locks were broken during a break and enter at the nursery on Washington Avenue on Jan. 27.

Both incidents are still under investigation.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
