Robbery suspects flee empty handed after challenged by baseball bat-wielding Penticton pawnshop owner
PENTICTON – A Penticton pawnshop owner defended his property with a baseball bat after a pair of suspects tried to rob the Main Street business yesterday afternoon.
Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police were called to Quick N Easy Pawn Broker at 431 Main St. around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, Jan. 30, when two men dressed in black, wearing masks, and armed with bear spray and a baton entered the store through the rear entrance.
When the store owner realized what was happening, he grabbed a baseball bat and got into a brief altercation with one of the suspects, Wrigglesworth says. The suspect tried to hit the pawn shop owner with the baton, smashing a display case instead.
The bear spray was also deployed before the suspects fled, one out the front door and the other out the back door. No merchandise was taken in the incident.
Police arrested one man in the alley behind the store after being identified by a witness, Wrigglesworth says.
