Vigil tonight at Islamic Centre for Quebec shooting victims

KELOWNA – A vigil will be held at Kelowna's Islamic Center tonight to honour the victims of a Quebec City mosque shooting. 

The vigil is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Jan. 31, at The Islamic Centre located 1120 Highway 33.

Hamid Butt with the Kelowna Islamic Centre says everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of their faith. 

The shooting took place Sunday night just before 8 p.m. during an evening prayer at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec. Six men died and 19 were injured during the attack.

Laval University student, Alexandre Bissonnette has been charged with six counts of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder while using a restricted firearm. 

The 27-year-old will be held in custody until his next court appearance on Feb. 21.
