Thieves come away mostly empty-handed after several Penticton homes broken into

PENTICTON – Damage caused by break-ins in Penticton last week outweighed what thieves obtained in loot.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police responded to four residential break and enters in the city last week.

On Jan. 26, police were summoned to a Green Avenue East residence where someone used a crowbar to gain entry, sometime overnight, to a garage in an attempt to steal a 2003 Saturn Ion sedan, Wrigglesworth says. The suspect broke the car's steering column and police are examining the vehicle for evidence.

Another break and enter was reported to have occurred sometime between 8 a.m. and 4:20 p.m., on Jan. 26 at a Windsor Avenue home where a main bedroom had been ransacked and money stolen out of a dresser.

Churchill Avenue residents reported a break and enter they believed occurred between 4 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 26. The front door had been kicked in, but nothing apparently stolen in the incident.

On Jan. 29, a house on Lakeview Street was broken into. The front door had been kicked in and rooms rummaged. The only item reported missing was a gold Omega watch with the inscription 'B.C. Government thanks for 40 years.'

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
