Investigation continues into death of worker at Lumby business

LUMBY – Authorities continue to investigate how and why a man was killed while working at an industrial business in Lumby.

Emergency officials were called to a log sorting yard on Bell Avenue Friday morning, Jan. 27, after an employee suffered fatal injuries on the job. 

The victim’s name, and the name of the business, have not been released.

WorkSafe B.C. spokesperson Trish Knight Chernecki says the agency is conducting a parallel investigation alongside the RCMP. Due to the nature of the investigation, she says WorkSafe may not be able to release further information for months.

“Because of the seriousness and the immediacy of the situation, it’s going immediately from an inspection to an investigation,” Knight Chernecki says. “When it goes to the investigation stage… we can’t comment or speak to it.”

WorkSafe investigators will be interviewing witnesses, checking machinery and gathering evidence.

The RCMP and B.C. Coroners Service also continue to investigate.
