Police investigating violent home invasion in Cherryville

CHERRYVILLE – Police have launched an investigation into a violent home invasion that happened over the weekend in Cherryville.

Lumby RCMP Cpl. Trevor Tribes says police were alerted to a residential burglary the morning of Saturday, Jan. 28.

Tribes says the incident involved violence and resulted in a theft from the property. A 69-year-old man was assaulted by unknown suspects who forced their way into the home. He says the suspects stole items, but doesn't say what was taken.

Police believe this was a targeted incident and say Cherryville residents should not be alarmed. They should, however, always report suspicious activity, such as unfamiliar people or vehicles, to the detachment any time it is observed.

Tribes declined to provide any further details about the home invasion, including the location where it happened.

“It’s still very much under investigation,” Tribes says.

Police have canvassed the neighbourhood and are taking witness statements. This is the only such complaint the detachment has received in recent weeks, Tribes says.
