Police investigate spray painting of racial slurs on Nova Scotia home

MONASTERY, N.S. – RCMP are investigating racial slurs against aboriginal people that were spray painted on a home in northern Nova Scotia.

The graffiti appeared on a house and shed in Monastery overnight Tuesday, and reported to Antigonish RCMP on Wednesday, said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

The graffiti was “racially and culturally insensitive” and included profanity and derogatory comments about aboriginal people, police said.

Clarke said the graffiti, which was painted “all over the house,” is not a random act.

“We are quite sure there isn’t someone going through the community targeting people of a certain racial descent,” said Clarke. “This appears to be an isolated incident.”

CTV reported that the home’s occupants are aboriginal.

Charges laid in such cases could range from mischief to inciting hatred, she said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
