Minor quake occurs off north B.C. coast; latest in a series of tremors
VANCOUVER – Another earthquake has occurred off the north B.C. coast, the latest in a series that has rattled the area since last fall.
The quake had a magnitude of 4.6 and struck about 75 kilometres south of Sandspit on the Haida Gwaii islands.
The West Coast-Alaska Tsunami Warning Centre in Palmer, Alaska, says there is no tsunami danger from the quake.
Two other quakes of similar magnitudes occurred in February in the same region.
A 7.7 earthquake rocked Haida Gwaii in October, the strongest recorded in Canada since an 8.1 shaker hit the same area in 1949.
None of the recent tremors has caused any damage.
