Teen’s ex-boyfriend pleads guilty to second-degree murder at B.C. university
VANCOUVER – The former boyfriend of a student murdered at a university campus in Surrey, B.C., has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Twenty-four-year-old Gurjinder Dhaliwal was originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of Maple Batalia.
The 19-year-old aspiring actress and model was gunned down in a parking lot at Simon Fraser University after a late-night study session in September 2012.
Dhaliwal is expected to be sentenced Monday.
His co-accused Gursimar Bedi is charged with manslaughter and being an accessory after the fact.
Bedi’s trial is expected to start next week. (CKWX, CKNW)
