Raise the Anchor campaign funds new rescue boat for Penticton firefighters
PENTICTON – The Penticton Fire Department will be plying the waters of Okanagan Lake in a new rescue boat this summer.
Fire Chief Larry Watkinson said in a press release the fire department was successful in raising over $80,000 in the community to fund the remaining cost of the $180,000 boat.
Calling the response from the community “nothing short of amazing” Watkinson said the boat has since been ordered and will be in service by the May long weekend.
“Whether it was $10 or $10,000, the Penticton Fire Department is truly grateful for every donation we received, and we’d like to acknowledge everyone who donated,” he said.
A rescue boat orientation for the public will be held this spring at the Penticton Yacht Club.
