The Latest: Remains of Blue Angels pilot arrive in Colorado

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Latest on the Blue Angels pilot who was killed in a crash while practicing for an air show in Tennessee (all times local):

The remains of a Blue Angels pilot who was killed in a crash while practicing for an airshow have arrived in Colorado.

The Durango Herald reports (http://goo.gl/kbvJ1K ) 32-year-old Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss will be remembered during a private burial Saturday. Residents are expected to line the streets to honour the Durango native as the motorcade passes through the city.

The ceremony also will include a flyover by the Checkerboards, Kuss’ unit before joining the Blue Angels.

Kuss was killed while practicing for an airshow near Nashville, Tennessee on June 2, and his remains arrived in Durango on Friday with a full colour guard.

Kuss, a married father of two young children, was killed the same day a pilot with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds crashed in Colorado but ejected safely.

During an emotional candlelight vigil in Florida, members of an elite flight demonstration squad said goodbye to one of its pilots, Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss.

Kuss, a 32-year-old married father of two young children, died June 2 while practicing for an airshow in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The Pensacola News-Journal (http://on.pnj.com/1Xe2Bpg ) reports fellow Blue Angel pilot Navy Lt. Matt Suyderhoud promised the crowd Thursday the squad will fly the skies over Pensacola where it is based “when the time is right.”

The Navy announced in a news release that Kuss will be buried Saturday in a private ceremony in Durango, Colorado. The ceremony includes a flyover by the Checkerboards, Kuss’ unit before joining the Blue Angels.

The Navy also announced that the Blue Angels cancelled upcoming performances in New York and Ohio following the crash.
