Charges laid in connection to North Shore shooting

KAMLOOPS – Charges have been laid in connection with an early morning shooting on the North Shore in Kamloops yesterday.

Blake Leonard Bernhard, 31, of Kamloops has been charged with two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a court order, according to court documents.

"Police are requesting that Bernhard be held on these charges while the investigation into the actual shooting incident continues," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release.

Bernhard is expected to appear in Kamloops Provincial court today, Feb. 3, for a bail hearing.

Shelkie says shortly after the shooting yesterday, Feb. 2, in the 1200 block of Sherbrooke Avenue "police checked a male a few blocks away." Bernhard was arrested and taken into custody, she says. He is known to police.

Along with an alley on Sherbrooke Avenue, the 1000 block of 12 Street was closed during the investigation yesterday.

"Police believe there are no outstanding public safety concerns stemming from this incident," Shelkie says.

RCMP are still asking witnesses to the shooting, who haven't spoken with poice yet, to call the Kamloops detachment at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
