Supergroup Dead & Company to donate $100K from NC show

NEW YORK – The supergroup Dead & Company says it will perform a concert in North Carolina this month, but will also donate $100,000 to organizations that fight against discrimination.

Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Maroon 5 and others have cancelled concerts in North Carolina because of the state’s law passed in March addressing LGBT rights and bathroom use by transgender people. Dead & Company said in a statement Thursday that they “had hoped that by now this abhorrent law would have been repealed. Sadly, it’s not.”

The band will play in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 10. They say donating to the Human Rights Campaign and Equality North Carolina is “the most effective way to move forward.”

Dead & Company includes John Mayer and Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir.
