Lawyer featured in ‘Making a Murderer’ is writing a book

NEW YORK, N.Y. – An attorney for Steven Avery who was featured in the hit Netflix series “Making a Murderer” has more to say about the trial.

HarperCollins tells The Associated Press on Monday that Jerome Buting has a deal with HarperCollins Publishers for a book being released next year. The book will be released through the Harper imprint.

“Making a Murderer” chronicles the hardship of Avery, a member of a salvage-yard family in Wisconsin’s rural Manitowoc County who served 18 years in prison for a 1985 rape he didn’t commit. The series tells of Avery’s widely disputed conviction in the 2005 death of a photographer.

The documentary suggests the possibility that deputies planted evidence.

In the book, Buting will draw on his 35-year career and assail the “dysfunction” of the criminal justice system.
