CHICAGO – A first-degree murder charge has been filed against a Chicago man in the death of a 9-year-old who police say was lured from a playground and shot in the head because of his father’s gang ties.
Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says 22-year-old Dwight Boone-Doty was charged Monday night in the November death of Tyshawn Lee.
Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, tells the Chicago Tribune Boone-Doty was also charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in a separate October shooting.
Guglielmi says Boone-Doty was being held on unrelated gun charges when investigations connected him with Tyshawn’s death. It wasn’t immediately clear if Boone-Doty had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
A news conference about the case is planned Tuesday.
Another man was charged with murder in November in connection with Tyshawn’s killing.
