Teen charged in shooting at Boston-area party is arraigned

BOSTON – A 16-year-old boy charged with murder in a weekend shooting that killed a man and left six other people injured from gunfire in the Boston suburbs is being held without bail.

Emanuel Marrero, of Lynn, was arraigned Tuesday on charges in the Chelsea shooting that killed 19-year-old Pablo Villeda.

According to Massachusetts law, Marrero will be tried as an adult.

Police say the shooting happened early Sunday during a party in a vacant apartment. Seven other people were taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. One of them had injuries unrelated to the gunfire.

The surviving shooting victims range in age from 15 to 22.

Marrero’s attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, says he’s awaiting information from the prosecution before commenting.

Marrero is due back in court April 8.
